{"id":93,"date":"2021-11-23T18:00:00","date_gmt":"2021-11-23T23:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/export.themeruby.com\/look\/2020\/02\/28\/how-to-make-a-cappuccino-without-machines-copy-copy-copy-copy-copy-copy\/"},"modified":"2021-11-05T16:51:37","modified_gmt":"2021-11-05T21:51:37","slug":"thanksgiving-island-style-and-5-easy-vegetation-sides-to-make","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lifeandhomewithcharms.com\/?p=93","title":{"rendered":"Thanksgiving Island Style and 5 Easy Vegetation sides to make"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap\"> Happy Thanksgiving, Island Style!&nbsp; Wait, what does that mean?&nbsp; Well in the Cayman Islands we observe three Thanksgivings.&nbsp; Canadian Thanksgiving in October.&nbsp; American Thanksgiving in November and Cayman Thanksgiving in December.&nbsp; That\u2019s a lot of turkey!&nbsp; But that\u2019s what you get from an island that boasts over 130 nationalities.&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What is a Cayman Thanksgiving?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> Cayman Thanksgiving differs slightly from our neighbours up north.&nbsp; This is not an official holiday, but a day observed on the first Sunday in December to reflect on the hurricane season past and give thanks for the safe passage of the hurricane season.&nbsp; This is quite understandable if you are aware of the vast devastation that took place at the passing of Hurricane Ivan in 2004. &nbsp;A new holiday: established in 2010, each year the emphasis has been on growing the focus on the Caymanian heritage and culture.. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lifeandhomewithcharms.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/1.png?resize=1024%2C1024&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Thanksgiving\" class=\"wp-image-1627\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lifeandhomewithcharms.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/1.png?resize=1024%2C1024&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lifeandhomewithcharms.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/1.png?resize=300%2C300&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lifeandhomewithcharms.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/1.png?resize=150%2C150&amp;ssl=1 150w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lifeandhomewithcharms.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/1.png?resize=768%2C768&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lifeandhomewithcharms.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/1.png?w=1080&amp;ssl=1 1080w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/caymanthanksgiving.ky\/\" title=\"http:\/\/caymanthanksgiving.ky\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Cayman Thanksgiving<\/a>  is a weekend-long national celebration to honour Caymanian heritage, culture, and way of life.&nbsp; Their mission is to establish an opportunity for the Cayman Community to give thanks for the blessings of life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are invited to a Cayman Thanksgiving supper here are some of the foods to look out for and try:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cayman Style Beef<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cayman Style Lobster<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Turtle stew<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Celebrating The American Thanksgiving<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p> While the Cayman Thanksgiving is a more family oriented and cultural celebration.&nbsp; However, the island really gets festive and celebrate the American Thanksgiving the fourth Thursday in November.&nbsp; The local supermarkets will cater a full turkey dinner for any size family saving you the trouble of cooking all day.&nbsp; It is not an official holiday so having your food catered comes in very handy.&nbsp; If you choose to dine out, there are several restaurants and hotels that offer special turkey dinners on Thursday.&nbsp; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.caymancabanarestaurant.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.caymancabanarestaurant.com\/\">Cayman Cabana <\/a>offers a vegan menu with all the trimmings so you can celebrate the day but keep things light.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5 Easy (popular) Vegetarian Thanksgiving sides to make<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Chances are if you are invited to a Thanksgiving dinner you may feel the need to bring a dish.&nbsp; And because Thanksgiving is all about the sides, I found 5 popular and easy vegetarian sides you could make at home (or purchase) to take with you.  Click on each for a link to the recipes and directions.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The holy grail, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedailymeal.com\/recipes\/creamy-and-delicious-mashed-potatoes-recipe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.thedailymeal.com\/recipes\/creamy-and-delicious-mashed-potatoes-recipe\">Mashed Potatoes<\/a> was voted by my American friends as the best Thanksgiving side dish.   Want to sneak in some vegetables?  Swap out half the potatoes for cauliflower.  No one will know \ud83d\ude42 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Coming in second was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbcgoodfood.com\/recipes\/vegetarian-stuffing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.bbcgoodfood.com\/recipes\/vegetarian-stuffing\">Stuffing<\/a>, as a Thanksgiving essential.  I enjoy a good stuffing!  Anyone knows why this is only a holiday dish?
